Counting Butterflies ~ Baby Borg Blog, February

Oh the days of throwing on you winter coat and boots, and racing out the door for some good ol’ fashion winter fun! These days, our trips outdoors involve an hour long ordeal, which always somehow end with me sweating profusely, cursing out mother nature, and promising to investigate into winter time shares!!!! Sound familiar?!?!
Despite my winter-woes, this season brought about many great things for my family and me.  Nothing was more special then when Ella looked out our bathroom window, saw the first snowfall of the year, and said, “Is ssssnoowin!”. Deliciously beautiful little white fluffs falling from the sky; how magical this must have been for her innocent naïve eyes.
So next time it snows outside, or you find yourself feverishly and frantically trying to make it to your car without getting salt stains on your sued boots (… note to self, do not buy sued winter boots!), and trying to recall when the last snowfall was last year; stop for one second, take a deep breath, watch the cold cloud of breath come out as you exhale, look around, and tell yourself, “how magical this must be in my child’s eyes”! Because after all, we are Canadian, EH?!?!?!
Product Review
I am constantly trying to find new ways to entertain Ella, and myself during those days that no amount of hot chocolate can warm the outside. You know… those days that you find yourself peeling your child off the ceiling, and playing hide-and-seek, just you can hide in the closet for a minute to get a break! Melissa & Doug have always come to my rescue and have done it yet again. I stumbled across this great play set… okay, time for my mommy confusion: My guilty pleasure of watching just about any reality television… shhhhhh, while I was watching Kourtney and Kim Take New York. Kourtney K. bought her son, Mason, this great little food market stand, and upon seeing it I just HAD to have it!!!! Luckily enough, my go-to baby borg site had it and before I knew it, Ella and I were setting up our own little food market in the living room!
Mommy Tip: Not only does this offer countless possibilities for pretend play, you can also use it to work on matching skills.  Place a picture of the food item on the baskets, and help your child put the food item where it belongs.  For older children, you can write fruit, vegetable, cans etc. on the basket and they can work on reading skills by placing the food items where they belong.  Try creatively embedding these ‘teaching moments’ and others, into your pretend play games.
